The We Love Scott Snyder And So Should You Giveaway

Comics For Heroes’ mission is to get comics to those who aren’t able to get them on their own and promote everything good about comics.  We do this by getting your donated comics to troops overseas and those not fortunate enough to be able to afford comics on their own, getting comics to kids in schools, trying to encourage people to pick up comics for the first time, spreading the word about the good that comics can do, and the positive influence they can have.

swamp thing vol 1In order to spread the word and promote what we are doing, we are going to be trying something out and doing weekly giveaways for the month of March.  We love the comics of Scott Snyder.  They’re some of the best out there at the moment.  Since Scott has been so good to us, we are going to be giving out a different trade or hardcover of one of his comics every week for the month of March.  Up first is Swamp Thing Vol. 1.  To be eligible, all you have to do is leave a comment to this post telling us why you love Swamp Thing or Scott’s comics in general.   Make sure that when you post, you use the email address option (which is the default) and not WordPress, Twitter, or Facebook.

This week’s giveaway begins today and ends at 12:00 am EST, Wednesday March 6th.

If this goes well for the month of March, we will try to do at least one giveaway monthly and feature the work of a different creator every month.

Some rules:

You only get one entry no matter how many times you post, so multiple posts do you no good.

You can enter multiple times by donating to Comics For Heroes via We Pay.  $2 donation required for an additional entry.

If you win one week, you can’t win again.

I have been been reading comics since I was 8, 9, or 10 years old (I have a bad memory). I fell in love with John Byrne’s Man of Steel series and his Superman was the first character I followed in comics. I am more of a Batman guy now, but Supes always has a spot near the top of my list. After realizing at a relatively young age that I would never be the comic artist/writer superstar I aspired to be, I had a short but glorious career in archaeology before becoming an IT professional. My passion for comics, while always there, reawakened with a passion after rediscovering my love of art. After someone in the industry did something really cool for me, Comics For Heroes was born out of a desire to share my passion for comics and bring the joy and fun that I find in them to those not necessarily able to enjoy it on their own. I have a personal blog here.

Snyder is the reason I got back into comics. He is a master story teller and plants seeds for something that come to fruition way down the road. Cerebral horror stories, like Severed, shows how twisted and brilliant Scott really is. He is the reason I attend conventions in my area. I first heard of and gladly donated to Comics For Heroes because of Scott Snyder. We know how great of a writer he is and if you have met him, you know he is as humble as they come and loves to take time to talk to his fans. Keep up the good work CfH!

Just really digging Swamp Thing right now. The overlap with with Animal Man while still remaining a unique love/horror story is great storytelling.

What isn’t to love about this first volume of Swamp Thing? This is mainstream big two horror at its absolute best. Snyder does a great job of turning up the eerie in this book, and Paquette’s layouts and art are fantastic. One of the shining stars of the New 52 relaunch, without a doubt!

Swamp Thing put Snyder ahead of Johns in my opinion. It’s too good.

I picked up Swamp Thing #13 after Snyder tweeted about the forthcoming post apocalyptic Gotham, I was expecting to dig the Batman themed visuals and be done with it but was drawn in to the story. I’m now sat here waiting for #18 to come out!

To be honest, I’m not currently into Swamp Thing. I want to give the character a try, but I just haven’t been able to yet due to financial limitations. I do currently read and thoroughly enjoy Batman though! Scott is a great writer, and I like to think of him as a brain ninja. In Batman, he is really good at taking simply ideas that no one has really thought of and puts his Batman spin on it. Like with the current Death of the Family arc, he takes an idea that the Bat-family is holding Batman back from being truly great and the Joker thinks he can help Batman by getting rid of them. At it’s core, it’s a very simple concept and Snyder allows executes his ideas well. I’m to the point now that anything with Scott’s name on it, I’ll eventually pick it up and read it because I know he’ll blow me away. Another thing Scott does with Batman that I enjoy is he incorporates the history of Gotham City into the story. I find it very interesting when he does this. I feel like I’m learning as well as enjoying a tale of my favorite superhero.

Alan Moore’s run on Swamp Thing made me fall in love with the character and after Snyder’s run on Detective Comics I knew if anyone could do it justice it would be him. His grasp of the characters he writes and the world they inhabit is great. I read Batman as well and Scott just has a keen understanding of their personalities and does justice to their histories.

I follow Scott on twitter and he seems like a pretty cool guy. Batman is excellent, I love American Vampire and I’m looking forward to The Wake. I never picked up Swamp Thing because I don’t really know anything about the character, so I’d love to win this and check out something new!

I blame Alan Moore for captivating me with the Swamp Thing & I hold Scott Snyder equally responsible for reinventing this character whom I’ve loved for so long. The origin of Swamp Thing is tragic and epic at the same time. There are no other characters in the comic book world to compare him too. He is and will remain unlike any others and that is why I love the character of Swamp Thing. As for Scott Snyder, he is currently meeting all comic book fans expectations of what superior comic writing should be. It has been a while since we’ve had the privilege of reading such great pieces of work and couldn’t be happier with his progress in this fantasy world he seems to currently be bringing to life with each issue he writes!
P.S. I’m great full for coming across Comics For Heroes, and I hope my donation helps put a smile on a kids face!
